Pre_Owned Latin Dress for Sale (Black & Red by Dore Designs)

Pre-Owned Dore dress for sale This is a beautiful dress that stands out on a competition floor. I bought this dress about a year ago and wore twice. Its 8 inch fringe moves well and the dress is in an excellent condition. It has built-in bra cups (size A or B) and a body suit. If you go to the Dore Designs web site, you can see this dress in the “sold” section. The size is probably medium (4 - 6) . I am tall and thin (5′ 6″ and 120 lbs) but has a big frame with wide shoulders, so it’s a bit tight around the shoulders for me. That’s why I’m selling this. My asking price is $1,700. If you are interested, please use the comment form of this post or the contact form of this site.

Here are some more pics of the dress.

Stretching/Conditioning/Exercises for Better Dancing

I exercise regularly for my general health and better dancing but sometimes I feel a need to expand my exercise routine. While browsing through exercise books, I’ve found 2 excellent books that were eye-opening for me. Both books are based on ballet principles but anyone, dancers or not, can benefit from them.

New York City Ballet Workout: Fifty Stretches And Exercises Anyone Can Do For A Strong, Graceful, And Sculpted Body

This book is very easy to follow and contains a lot of beautiful photos of ballet dancers. Just looking at those photos can be motivating. Dancers talk about their take on fitness in the intro section, which I found interesting. The main workout section is divided into six: warm-up, stretch, abdominals, floor barre, ballet center, and legs. You can read more reviews here. There are also 2 DVDs based on this book.

Conditioning for Dance

While New York City Ballet Workout has somewhat of a coffee table book feel because of its abundance of pictures, Conditioning for Dance focuse on body awareness, relaxation, and imagery. This book has plenty of anatomical illustrations, which help us understand what it means to be aware of the body. Its emphasis of feel and touch is quite insightful. Especially, I found the section for “Improving Turn-Out With Touch and Imagery” quite interesting. More reviews on this book are found here.

Missing Slavik

Photo by photo by Roman Stetsyk posted at Dancesportinfo.
According to this post over at Swan Lake Samba Girl blog, Slavik Kryklyvyy was in London for the International Championships in early October. He was actually at the competition but didn’t compete and just watched it. Tonya’s friend who was there heard the rumor that he hadn’t felt ready for the competition. I really really hope that is not the case. Now there is a series of show dances by Slavik and Hanna taped in Greece is on Youtube now. Some comments for the videos also point out that the new partnership is still needing some fine-tuning. Their next appearance on this side of the pond is supposed to be in New York in December 2008. As for competitions, they are set to compete in the U.K. Open in next January. Just like Tonya, I miss seeing Slavik’s dancing.

The woman in the photo is Karina Smirnoff and the man turned out to be Mario, Karina’s partner from last year’s Dancing With the Stars. I hope everyone is getting ready to vote!

Stoning a Costume (to Spruce up a Pre-Owned or Inexpensive One)

Most of the time, we can’t get what we want. It’s particularly true when it comes to competition costumes/dresses. High quality new costumes are darn expensive, but you need a dress for an upcoming competition or a showcase….. Well, there’s something you can do to spruce up a little-less-than-ideal dress— put some rhinestone on it.

Stoning a dress is not that difficult, especially once you get used to it. Just putting Swarovski stones on a dress improves its appearance so much. The key is to use high-quality rhinestones, such as Swarovski. Sure, Swarovski stones are expensive, but remember you start with a cheap dress. Decorating a cheap dress with cheap stones, which you bought at a local craft store, doesn’t do it good. Plus, you’ll feel cheap, too. I felt really cheap when I attempted for the first time. It was for a studio showcase, and I didn’t have enough time to do a research on the how-to’s or to order Swarovski. Since then, I learned. So, here are some tips.

  1. Buy a pre-owned or inexpensive dress.
  2. You can buy a pre-owned dress from the links listed in this post, or go for a new and inexpensive one from abroad, such as Rainbow Shiu or Acapulco Paradiso. Another choice is Tangoleva. Even though Tangoleva is specialized in tango dresses, some of the dresses look suitable for ballroom showcases. If you decide to buy an inexpensive new one, make sure to order it “without” any stones. Once I bought a dress with cheap stones and had to remove those unsparkling stones in order to put Swarovski stones. Removing the stones took much more time than putting new ones on.

  3. Order Swarovski rhinestones
  4. The only place I’ve ordered stones is Rhinestoneshop. The shipping is quite fast and I am satisfied with their quality, too. Their website offers some info about terminologies and such. There are flatback stones and hot-fix stones. I think flatbacks are more appropriate for beginners. Of course, there are a lot of other online stores, too.

  5. Decide on the stoning pattern
  6. This is the part you can use your artistic sense. It’s fun to think about the patterns.

  7. Get the materials
  8. You need to get glue. I use Gem-tac but some people use E-6000. Other than rhinestones and glue, I use a small paper plate, tweezers, and toothpicks.

  9. Glue the stones
  10. Squeeze a small amount of Gem-tac on a paper plate.
Using a toothpick, put a little bit of glue on the dress according to the design you chose. Use tweezers to pick up a stone and put it on the spot you put glue. Keep going…..

I find stoning a dress very calming and relaxing. I usually have some music or TV on while I do it.

It usually takes a day for glue to set and dry, so hung the dress when you’re done.

Cha Cha Music

So far, I’ve had 2 posts about rumba music.  Now it’s time for music for cha cha.  Some are a bit fast to dance to, so you may want to slow it down using some tools (see ).
